Introduction to Ceramics 8 Week Course

This 8-week inclusive ceramics and pottery course is designed to provide participants with a hands-on experience to explore various hand building techniques, glazing techniques and gain a deeper understanding of working with clay.

Date: Starts Monday 13th May 2024 - end date Monday 8th July
(Bank holiday Monday 27th May - no session)

Time: 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Location: Omega Centre Ceramics Studio, Portsmouth, PO5 4LP

• Week one will be dedicated to an introduction to the studio, and participants will learn the basics of pinch pot making and mark making for decoration.

• Week two will focus on slab-building techniques and mark-making for decoration.

• Week three will cover coil-building techniques and using underglazes on the items made in the previous week.

• Week four will be devoted to glaze techniques on previously bisque items.

• Week five will allow participants to use their previously learned skills to develop their own pieces.

• Weeks six and seven will continue to build on what has been learned previously.

• In week eight, participants will finish up the course by completing the glazing of their pieces.

This course is suitable for complete beginners. Please wear suitable clothing that you will not mind getting dirty, aprons are provided if required. Wear suitable shoes that are closed in at the toe and remove jewellery.

All necessary tools and materials will be provided for the course, and the cost of these is included in the price.
